What is the A Type and a Shadow Extension?

Have you ever wanted to type along with the Scriptures or General Conference talks? The A Type and a Shadow Extension has been built to make the Scriptures and General Conference talks of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints typable on churchofjesuschrist.org.

The A Type and a Shadow Extension works entirely within www.churchofjesuchrist.org webpages. Open the Extension’s setting pane by clicking on the icon within your web browser’s extensions pane. Click the “Enter Typing Mode” button while a scripture chapter or General Conference talk webpage is open to make the webpage text typable. Other webpages can be typed by highlighting any text on churchofjesuschrist.org and clicking “Make Highlighted Text” button. Typing speed metrics start being calculated once typing mode is toggled on and are deleted once typing mode is toggled off.

Scripture typing progress is saved to the user’s Chrome profile. A scripture chapter completion map can be found within the A Type and a Shadow’s Extension settings pane. Click on a chapter within the chapter completion map to navigate directly to that chapter. Can you make it to 100% of chapters typed?

How Does the A Type and a Shadow Extension Make Webpages Typable?

The A Type and a Shadow Extension manipulates the opacity levels of webpage text as you type along. Un-typed characters are made slightly transparent. Character transparency is reset to normal levels when typed correctly. Entering typing mode has been made easy on scripture chapters and general conference talks. You can also type any other text on churchofjesuschrist.org by highlighting text and clicking “Make Highlighted Text Typable”. Characters use the same transparency manipulation when using this typing mode.

What should I do if a Character is Un-Typable?

Our team has identified a large list of un-typable characters throughout scripture chapters. Un-typable characters that we have identified will be automatically skipped when you reach them while typing a webpage. However, if you find an un-typable character that our team has not identified, there are two options! Either locate and click the “Skip this character” button in the Extension’s setting pane, or type any character and wait 10 seconds for a popup to appear asking if you would like to skip the current character.
